About the artist

“A Lancashire artist lucky enough to live near both seaside and fells for inspiration.”

Helen paints from a home studio in Lancashire, pulling colour and form from the coastline and the fells on either side of her. Figures dissolve into weather; fellsides are built up in plaster and pigment until they hold light the way the hills do at the end of the day.

Each piece is worked slowly, in layers, over several sittings — which is where the studio shots opposite come from. What starts as a plain ground of plaster ends up as a painting that's spent weeks, not hours, becoming what it is.
